Academic Policies and Procedures It is the responsibility of the student to become familiar with the following policies of Northeast Kansas Technical College. These policies serve as the basis for handling academic procedures at the College. Attendance
School attendance is frequently a reliable predictor of future performance as an employee. Northeast Kansas Technical College is dedicated to providing both technical skills and employability skills related to the program of study. Punctual and regular attendance is necessary for successful completion of any course. All coursework builds upon material sequentially presented in class. Faculty members are dedicated to providing the best instruction possible but are not required to repeat any lecture or lab for a student who has been absent. It is each student’s responsibility to obtain information presented during his/her absence and to complete all assignments. Punctual and regular attendance is also essential for successful employment. Other employability skills are also related to attendance: time management and good work habits. Students are expected to demonstrate these essential employability skills as part of their course requirements while at NEKTC. The maximum number of days a student may be absent
cannot exceed ten (10) per school year. (Nursing students may not exceed
eleven (11) days per school year.) Withdrawal Policy
A withdrawal occurs when a student officially withdraws, drops out, is expelled, or otherwise fails to complete the program on or after the first day of class. The withdrawal date is the actual Last Date of Attendance as recorded. The date is the same whether the student is dropped or has withdrawn. When a student finds it necessary to withdraw from a course, he/she is to report to the Administrative Office to properly withdraw from class. If a student officially withdraws up to the last two weeks prior to final exams, he/she receives a grade of “W” in the course. No withdrawals will be granted after this time period. Students not officially withdrawing will be awarded a grade of “F.” Grading System
Student reports are distributed to students soon after the close of each semester. For students attending high school, reports are mailed to the proper high school official and to the student’s parents at the end of each quarter. Grades are assigned according to the following grading scale: Any hours of “F” will not be counted towards graduation hours. Students will be required to have a 2.0 GPA to graduate from Northeast Kansas Technical College. For any student with a passing grade, who cannot complete work in a course because of illness or other extenuating circumstances, an “I” (incomplete) is entered temporarily on his/her record. A course recorded as incomplete must be completed within five school days after the end of the semester, except when an extension of time is granted by the agreement of the President and the Instructor of the course. After five school days, the “I” becomes and “F.” Honor Roll
Honor Roll will be calculated each semester. To qualify for honor roll status, a student must meet satisfactory academic progress. Students who qualify for Honor Roll each semester they are attending will graduate with High Honors or Honors. Students with incomplete grades will not be considered for Honor Roll. High Honor Roll: Honor Roll:
Academic Integrity
Northeast Kansas Technical College assumes that all students are enrolled to learn and expects students to function in an ethical manner. Therefore, plagiarism, cheating, or a detection of academic dishonesty will result in the student receiving no credit for the work and may result in an “F” grade or suspension from NEKTC. Students charged with academic dishonesty have the right to appeal any action or decision and assured of due process. |
