•Program Overview

Diesel technicians diagnose trouble accurately with the use of modern testing equipment. They repair and service the entire truck and trailer. Students will learn diesel engine overhaul, air and hydraulics, electrical, and fuel systems, and many more components of today’s modern trucks.

•Purpose

The purpose of the Diesel Technology program is to provide educational opportunities to individuals that will enable them to obtain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to succeed in the field of truck service and repair profession.

The diploma program is intended to produce graduates who are prepared for entry-level employment as diesel technicians. The program emphasizes a combination of truck repair theory and practical application necessary for successful employment.

The Associate of Applied Science Degree program is for those individuals who seek diesel technology training and additional academic preparation for advancement into management, sales, or other related areas.

•Career Opportunities

Employment of diesel technicians is expected to increase faster than average, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

Maintenance departments, which have the responsibility for the repair and the maintenance of the entire truck, need skilled graduates to fill diesel technician positions. Many technicians find employment with companies that own a fleet of vehicles such as truck lines, bus lines, and construction companies. Other technicians work for small repair shops, truck dealerships, heavy equipment dealers, and the government.
