NUR 101 Fundamentals of Nursing and Lab ------- 4
Fundamentals I: Students demonstrate competency in basic nursing procedures and begin nursing process, computer, and medical terminology. Fundamentals II: Students learn asepsis and procedures, such as gloving, catheterization, and injections.

NUR 105 Geriatrics ------- 1
This course covers the normal aging process along with disease entities that usually accompany aging. The psychosocial aspects of the geriatric client are also reviewed. The role of the LPN in the geriatric setting is presented. Students will be required to keep a bi-weekly journal to document their perspectives concerning geriatric nursing.

NUR 111 Contemporary Practical Nursing I ------- 1
This course is designed to prepare the student to accept the role as a practical nurse. The history of practical nursing is presented, followed by communications, legal aspects, safety,cultural and religious roles in healthcare, and employment opportunity investigation. Also included is group participation in HOSA to complete a community service project.

NUR 115 Pharmacology ------- 3
This course is designed to acquaint students with both general and specific information about medications. Instruction on mathematics along with systems of measurement will be included.

NUR 121 Medical-Surgical Nursing I ------- 4
This course allows the student to study nursing care of patients with specific diseases and injuries. It consists of the study of the etiology, prevention, symptoms, and treatment of the disease as well as the nursing care and prognosis for the patient.

NUR 125 Medical-Surgical Nursing Clinical I ------- 5
This clinical course is designed to introduce students to nursing care at three levels: long-term care, skilled care, and acute care (at approved healthcare facilities). Grades are given for each of the three levels.

BI 244-A Anatomy/Physiology I and Lab ------- 6
This course is intended to provide students with a basic understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the normal human body. Lecture and lab components serve as a basis for future study of abnormal conditions. Benedictine College and the practical nursing faculty share teaching responsibilities throughout the course.

PY 198-V1 Psychology/Mental Health ------- 3
This course, offered by Benedictine College, surveys the basics of psychological principles and mental health. Students are acquainted with signs and symptoms of specific mental illnesses and their treatment modalities. Communication skills and the nature of a therapeutic relationship are reviewed.

NUR 151 Contemporary Practical Nursing II ------- 1
This course is a continuation of Contemporary Practical Nursing I and is designed to prepare the student to accept the role as a practical nurse. The history of practical nursing is presented, followed by communications, legal aspects, safety,cultural and religious roles in healthcare, and employment opportunity investigation. Also included is group participation in HOSA to complete a community service project.
Prerequisite: Contemporary Practical Nursing I.

NUR 155 Basic Pediatric Nursing ------- 2
Nursing care for children provides students with a study of the principles of growth and development of normal children and review of the more common communicable diseases. This study is correlated with experiences in the medical and surgical nursing unit of the hospital and the community.

NUR 161 Maternal & Newborn Health ------- 2
Students receive classes concerning the natural physiological experience of childbirth and the related psychosocial issues of the maternity patient during her pregnancy, in the labor/delivery unit, and in the postpartal unit. Fetal development will be discussed, as well as the transition of the newborn to extra-uterine life. The changing relationship with the whole family will be discussed.

NUR 171 Medical-Surgical Nursing II ------- 5
This course is a continuation of Medical-Surgical Nursing I. The course allows students to further study nursing care of patients with specific diseases and injuries. It consists of the study of the etiology, prevention, symptoms, and treatment of the disease, as well as the nursing care and prognosis for the patient.
Prerequisite: Medical-Surgical Nursing I.

NUR 175 Medical-Surgical Nursing Clinical II ------- 4
This clinical course builds on Medical-Surgical Nursing Clinical I experiences. Students assume more nursing responsibilities in acute care, including team leadership. Nursing care for normal maternity clients, newborns and children rounds out this clinical experience. Grades are given for each clinical area.

BI 344-A Anatomy/Physiology II and Lab ------- 2
This course is a continuation of Anatomy/Physiology I and Lab. The course is intended to provide students with a basic understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the normal human body. Lecture and lab components serve as a basis for future study of abnormal conditions. Benedictine College and the practical nursing faculty share teaching responsibilities throughout the course.
