Course Descriptions

CRT 101 Operating Systems ------- 4
This course provides instruction on the most commonly used major operating systems. Components covered will be installation, configuration, maintenance, file management, and batch files.

CRT 111 Assembling/Disassembling ------- 2
This course is designed to examine and apply the skills, tools, and information necessary to assemble and disassemble a personal computer. With this basic knowledge, students can assemble and disassemble various types of personal computers.

CRT 121 Computer Hardware Architecture ------- 2
This course is designed to examine and apply the skills, tools, and information necessary to identify and explain various types of components. Components covered will include drives, motherboards, memory, central processing units (CPUs), and ports.

CRT 131 Computer Hardware Troubleshooting ---- 5
This course is designed to examine and apply the skills, tools, and information necessary to troubleshoot computer hardware components. This course is the true core of the Computer Repair Technology program. Internal computer components will also be diagnosed. With the knowledge gained during this course, students will be able to troubleshoot any IBM-compatible computer system.

CRT 151 Computer System Architecture ------- 2
This course is designed to examine and apply the skills, tools, and information necessary to identify and understand various types of systems within the computer. Systems covered will include CPU and cache memory, buses, addresses, instruction sets, and interrupts. Instruction will include interfaces between the systems within the computer and hardware components.

CRT 161 Computer System Troubleshooting ------- 6
This course is designed to examine and apply the skills, tools, and information necessary to troubleshoot systems within the computer. With this knowledge, students can troubleshoot the bus system, memory and memory addressing system, computer system, timing and start, and runtime error codes.

CRT 171 Input/Output Devices ------- 5
This course is designed to examine and apply the skills, tools, and information necessary to install, set up, and troubleshoot various peripheral equipment. Instruction will cover keyboard, pointing devices, scanners, printers, modems, and CD-ROMS. With this knowledge, students will be able to install, set up, and troubleshoot peripheral
equipment, hardware, and the interface of the computer.

CRT 181 Technical Writing ------- 1
This course provides students with instruction on the organization and writing of technical documents including proposals, business letters and memos, and technical reports.

CRT 191 Professional Development ------- 2
This course is intended to develop skills to assist the student in growing professionally and personally. Emphasis will be placed on attendance, professional attitude, classroom behavior, and leadership activities. The course examines several of the major concerns of employers: problem-solving, time management, and teamwork.

CRT 195 Occupational Work Experience
Occupational work experiences are available to students who have completed 85% of their required course hours. This is an optional course for computer repair technology students who wish to gain further “real-life” experiences at local businesses and/or approved sites.
