Course Descriptions


NET 101 Integrated Applications ------- 4
This course is designed to examine and apply the skills, tools, and information necessary to perform basic software applications used with microcomputers. Instruction in word processors, spreadsheets, database, and presentation software applications will be taught. Students will perform fundamental applications, format and print queries, and prepare reports.

NET 111 Novell Networking ------- 4
This course will cover the creation of Novell networks, including setting up file servers and network client computers. Client computer setup will include the major operating systems. Students will also be trained in the administration of Novell networks, including the creation of users, groups, login scripts, and using the NDS.

NET 121 Cisco Networking Academy I ------- 6
This course will teach students how to design, build, and maintain computer networks, enabling them to develop the skills they need to compete in an increasingly technology-dependent workplace. Students taking this course via the Internet must have access to a computer with appropriate software installed.

NET 151 Windows NT Networking ------- 4
This course will cover the creation of Windows NT networks, including setting up file servers and network client computers. Client computer set-up will include the major operating systems. Students will also be trained in the administration of NT networks, including the creation of users and groups.

NET 161 Internet ------- 3
Students in this course will learn to use the Internet as a research and problem-solving tool. The World Wide Web, search engines, FTP, and e-mail will be covered. This course will also cover the creation and maintenance of web pages, Internet server set-up, e-mail server set-up, and server client set-up and maintenance.

NET171 Cisco Networking Academy II ------- 6
This course is an extension of (NET 121) Cisco Networking Academy I. Students will learn fundamental networking concepts and have a chance to apply their new skills in a project-based, hands-on lab setting. Students taking this course via the Internet must have access to a computer with appropriate software installed.
Prerequisite: Cisco Networking Academy I.

NET 181 Certification Prep ------- 3
This course helps prepare students for the Cisco Certified Networking Administrator (CCNA) and Novell Certified Network Administrator (CNA) exams.

NET 195 Occupational work experience
Occupational Work Experiences are available to students who have completed 85% of their required course hours. This is an optional course for computer networking students who wish to gain further “real-life” experiences at local businesses and/or approved sites.
