Auto Collision Repair
Two-Year Diploma………....64 Credits Program Overview Auto collision repair workers repair and replace automotive body and frame components. The job involves many skills including frame repair, welding and cutting, metal straightening, application of up-to-date body materials, metal finishings, and painting and alignment of body components. Auto collision repair workers also estimate damage and compute labor and material costs. Purpose The purpose of the Auto Collision Repair program is to provide educational opportunities to individuals that will enable them to obtain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to succeed in the field of auto collision repair. The diploma program is intended to produce graduates who are prepared for employment as an entry-level auto collision repair technician. The first year of the diploma program is designed to teach the basics of auto collision repair. The complete diploma program is designed to provide practice of the basics and learn major body repair, estimating, shop management, and customer relations. The Associate of Applied Science Degree program is for those individuals who seek auto collision repair training and additional academic preparation for advancement into management, engineering, sales, or other related areas. Career Opportunities Employment is plentiful and steady throughout the year. Graduates often enter an apprenticeship training program and work under an experienced journeyperson for a period of at least three years. The usual four-year apprenticeship term is shortened by technical college experience. There are opportunities for advancement to estimator, adjustor, service manager, parts manager, or shop owner.
