•Program Overview

The automated office of business today utilizes high technology in many ways. Today’s office workers are part of these high technology systems. Program graduates may work in a specialized office support position that is entirely assigned to production tasks on the computer or in a general office setting, taking on a variety of tasks.

•Purpose

The purpose of the Administrative Assistant program is to provide educational opportunities to individuals that will enable them to obtain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to succeed in the field of office technology.

The diploma program is intended to produce graduates who are prepared for entry-level employment as an administrative assistant or word processing specialist. The Administrative Assistant program provides instruction for the development of communicative skills for gaining proficiency in the skill areas such as document production, machine transcription, microcomputer applications, keyboarding, word processing concepts, English, accounting essentials, and occupational information.

The Associate of Applied Science Degree program is for those individuals who seek administrative assistant training and additional academic preparation for advancement in the field of office technology.

•Career Opportunities

Employment opportunities are excellent for skilled, capable, dependable office support workers with extensive computer background. The U.S. Department of Labor predicts that jobs will be plentiful because of replacement needs in business and industry.

The Administrative Assistant program graduates may be employed in any office setting—large or small. The program offers graduates flexibility when searching for full-time work. Graduates may choose the setting in which they wish to work.
