Admissions

1. Is there an application deadline?
No. NEKTC is on rolling admissions with a first-come, first-serve basis in all programs. Students are highly encouraged to apply early because programs fill quickly in the spring.

2. How long does it take to process an application and when will the acceptance letter be mailed?
The application process timeline is dependent on each student.
Acceptance letters will not be mailed until the Admissions Office has received a student's (1) application form, (2) enrollment fee, and (3) math and reading ACT WorkKeys scores.

3. Is an enrollment fee required, and if so, how much?
There is a non-refundable enrollment fee that can be paid by cash, check, credit card, or money order.

4. Do I need a copy of my high school transcript, GED, and/or college transcripts?
The Admissions Office must receive a copy of your high school transcript or GED no later than one semester after being admitted to the College. If you have prior college credit, please have an official transcript sent to the Admissions Department at NEKTC.

5. Does the College require an ACT/SAT assessment test?
No. All students applying for admission to NEKTC must take the math and reading ACT WorkKeys assessment. To schedule an assessment please call 1-800-567-4890.

6. What score do I need on the ACT WorkKeys math and reading assessments to be accepted?
Each program at NEKTC has individual required program scores that must be achieved prior to graduating from NEKTC. A student can be accepted into a program with a score of one below the required scores. Please check with the Admissions Office for required program scores.

7. What kind of student fees do I have to pay each semester?
NEKTC prides itself on being a very cost-efficient, affordable institution. Each semester a student will be required to pay a(n) (1) technology fee, (2) lab fee, (3) activity fee, and (4) book fee. Some programs also require a one-time uniform fee. In a student's last semester, a graduation fee will also be required prior to graduation. For further information, please request a Tuition & Fee Schedule from the Admissions Office.

Financial Aid

1. Can I receive financial aid?
NEKTC offers Federal Pell Grants, and Student Loans to those who qualify. Please contact the Financial Aid Office for further information.

2. When will I receive my financial aid money?
Students receiving financial aid must maintain satisfactory academic progress to receive disbursement. Fall semester disbursement will be at the end of September. Spring semester checks will be disbursed at the end of February. All tuition and fees, excluding the enrollment fee, will be deferred pending financial aid disbursement. Note: nursing Students' financial aid will be disbursed in August and January.

3. What happens if I have extra financial aid money?
All Federal Financial Assistance is sent to NEKTC Financial Aid Office and credited to each student's account. Tuition, fees, books, and supplies will be deducted from the student's financial aid. Any remaining credit balance will be disbursed to the students at the times stated in Question Two.

4. Do you accept scholarships?
NEKTC will accept any scholarship awarded to students. Check with the Financial Aid Office for scholarship opportunities.

5. If I qualify for a student loan, when will I have to start paying the loan back?
Students who utilize a student loan will be responsible for paying the loan back starting six months after graduation from NEKTC.

6. If I drop out of my program after school starts, will I be refunded?
For those students who do not qualify for federal financial assistance, the refund policy is as follows:
2nd Day of Class: 100% refund of applicable tuition and fees;
Up to the 10th Day of Class: 75% refund of applicable tuition and fees;
11th Day of Class or After: 0% refund of applicable tuition and fees.
Note: Books are non-refundable and are not returnable.


Academics

1. Can I transfer my program credits to another institution after I graduate?
NEKTC has developed many relationships with institutions throughout the states of
Kansas and Missouri. If a student is looking to transfer to another institution, it is
the student's responsibility to discuss future plans with the Vice President of Student
Services to ensure applicable transferability.

2. How do I get a copy of my transcripts after I graduate from NEKTC?
Please contact the Registrar's Office and request a copy. Charges do apply.

3. Do I have to take the WorkKeys developmental classes?
If a student does not achieve the required program math and reading scores prior to entering college, the student will automatically be enrolled in the developmental classes to assist in raising his or her score on the WorkKeys assessments.

4. Can I test out of classes?
No. NEKTC programs are structured in a manner that makes it very difficult for students to test out of any part of the program and be successful.

5. Can I earn my Associate degree at NEKTC?
Yes. Any student who is enrolled in a two-year technical program has the opportunity to earn the Associate of Applied Science degree. NEKTC currently has a scholarship program with Highland Community College that makes earning an AAS degree financially feasible. Please contact an Admissions representative for more information.

6. Can I switch programs after school has started?
Students may only switch to another program at the beginning of a semester if the program they are wishing to switch to has an opening for new students.

7. Do I need to have my student ID with me when I am on campus?
Yes. It is strongly recommended that students carry their student ID's with them at all times while on campus. This is for their own protection and safety. NEKTC reserves the right to check for student ID's at any time.

8. How many days of school can I miss?
The maximum number of days a student is allowed to be absent cannot exceed ten (10) per school year.

9. What do I do if I have a complaint about an instructor or student?
If the student cannot resolve the issue with his or her instructor, he or she should follow procedures outlined in the Student Handbook.

Student Life

1. Do I have a lunch break or any other breaks throughout the day?
Morning Break: 9:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.
Lunch Break: 11:07 a.m. to 11:47 a.m.
Afternoon Break: 1:15 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

2. May I leave campus for breaks?
Students may only leave campus during their lunch break. Anyone found in violation of this will face disciplinary action.

3. Is there a dress code at NEKTC?
Yes. Please consult the Student Handbook for dress code requirements.

4. Does NEKTC allow personal phone calls?
No. Students will not be called to the telephone during school hours, unless it is an emergency. Messages will be delivered to the students. Students may make calls during breaks only on the phones provided in each building for local calls.

5. Can I carry a cell phone or pager on campus?
Electronic devices such as cellular phones and pagers are not to be used in any classroom, shop, laboratory or office of NEKTC. Electronic devices may be used during break times only.

6. May I bring a visitor to campus with me?
Visitors are required to have permission from the Admissions Office and program instructor prior to the visit. All visitors will be required to obtain a visitor's pass in the Administration Office.

7. Can I smoke on campus?
State law allows smoking in designated areas only. Smoking is permitted on campus only in designated outdoor areas. Smoking and smokeless tobacco are prohibited in any building on campus. Violators of this policy will face disciplinary action.

8. Will NEKTC help me find a job?
Placement service is available to all students and graduates of NEKTC. The service is available through both the program instructor and the Admissions Office.

9. What student organizations are available for me on campus?
Student Senate, Skills USA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America), Business Professionals of America, Collegiate Paralegal Association of Northeast Kansas, and Student Ambassadors are available for student participation.
