Kansas Board of Regents Vocational Educational Scholarship

This is a scholarship administered by the Kansas Board of Regents. It provides up to $500 for those students who received one of the top 100 scores on the qualifying exam and who attend a vocational program. Applications to take the scholarship exam may be obtained from Northeast Kansas Technical College, your high school counselor, or the Board of Regents office in Topeka, KS.

Kansas Nursing Scholarship

This scholarship is available to students enrolled in the Practical Nursing program. It is funded jointly by the State of Kansas and a medical sponsor, with a maximum award of $2,500. Applicants must complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form, the Kansas State Aid Application, and a Board of Regents application. All three required forms may be obtained from the Northeast Kansas Technical College Financial Aid Office.

Northeast Kansas Technical College Scholarships

NEKTC Foundation Achievement Scholarships:

The NEKTC Foundation Achievement Scholarship came about because of a number of contributions by local businesses and individual donations, and retired employees and alumni donations. Scholarships will be awarded beginning in the spring of 2003.


Michael Matzeder Scholarship:

Mike Matzeder was a 20 year-old Diesel Technology student who died suddenly in August, 2002. His family and friends started the scholarship in Michael’s honor with memorial contributions. Criteria were left up to his parents. They would like the scholarship to go to a Diesel Technology student who graduated from a northeast Kansas high school.


Selma Key Business Technology
Department Scholarship:

Selma Key graduated from the Office Education program in 1969. She immediately went to work for Midwest Grain, now MGP Ingredients, Inc. Ms. Key currently funds the scholarship herself. The recipient must be a Business Technology student and is nonrenewable.

Melvern Deckard Presidential Scholarship:

Melvern Deckard was the founder and director of Northeast Kansas Area Vocational Technical School, now known as Northeast Kansas Technical College. He served as the director from 1967 to 1982. Mr. Deckard continued to support the college through the years and in 2000, he helped establish the Northeast Kansas Technical College Foundation, Inc. He served as the foundation chairperson until his death in October, 2002.

Academic Scholarships

Applicants for an academic scholarship must submit a formal application to the Financial Aid Office. Supporting documents include a transcript of high school grades and Work Keys results (recommended but not required). Scholarships awarded covering tuition are limited to a maximum of 558 hours per semester. Fees are not paid by scholarships. The scholarship application and any reference materials must be turned into the Financial Aid Office.

Additional Scholarships

Additional scholarships, provided by varying area businesses and organizations, will be available during a student's school year. Each department is notified of the scholarships, and all students will have the opportunity to apply.
