Seven Steps to Northeast Kansas Technical College
As your high school graduation quickly approaches, applying
to college can become a stressful process. Every college has their own
admissions policies and procedures. To better help you make the transition
from high school to Northeast Kansas Technical
College, we have created this checklist that will help you keep track
of what is completed and remind you of what steps are left.
1. Call to schedule a campus visit & request an enrollment
packet

3. Schedule a Work Keys Test
*Also schedule a NET test if applying for LPN program

Admission Requirements
Admission procedures ensure applicants are admitted
without regard to race, religion, gender, creed, national origin, marital
status, or handicap. Qualified students are accepted on a first-come,
first-serve basis, and all programs have limited enrollments; therefore,
early application is encouraged. The Practical Nursing program is a selective
admissions program (refer to Practical Nursing admission requirements).
Postsecondary Students
(New Students)
1. Applicants must be physically and mentally capable of
benefiting from the education offered.
2. Applicants must complete an enrollment application form and submit
the non-refundable application fee.
3. Applicants shall be admitted upon proof of graduation from an accredited
high school (official transcript must be sent from the high school to
Northeast Kansas Technical College) or upon submission of an official
General Education Diploma (GED).
4. Applicants must take the ACT WorkKeys assessment and meet each program's
minimum standards prior to program acceptance.
5. Transfer applicants wishing to be considered for advance-standing shall
request official transcripts from the issuing institution to be mailed
directly to the Northeast Kansas Technical College Registrar Office.
6. A high school diploma or GED is required for admission into an Associate
of Applied Science (A.A.S.) Degree program.
7. Admission to certain technical programs may be granted, by special
permission from the President and program instructor, to individuals who
do not meet all admissions requirements.
Secondary Students
High school applicants must be 16 years of age or older
on September 15, currently enrolled as a junior or senior, and on schedule
to graduate from high school.
1. Applicants must be physically and mentally capable
of benefiting from the education offered.
2. Applicants must complete an enrollment application form and submit
the non-refundable application fee.
3. Applicants must take the ACT WorkKeys assessment and meet each program's
minimum standards prior to program acceptance.
4. Admission to certain technical programs may be granted, by special
permission from the Director and program instructor, to individuals who
do not meet all admission requirements.
5. High school applicants must have a parent/guardian signature on the
application.
*High school students in Kansas are sponsored by their
local Unified School District according to state law and local policy.
For students attending high school half days and NEKTC half days, tuition
will be paid by the school district in which they live. It is the responsibility
of the student to pay all fees and book charges.
Practical Nursing Admissions
The Practical Nursing program can accept 30 students yearly.
The selection process is based on points awarded for the following admissions
criteria:
1. Applicant must be physically and mentally capable of
benefiting from the education offered and possess the qualities and maturity
of responsible adults.
2. Applicant must complete an enrollment application form and submit the
non-refundable application fee.
3. Applicant must submit proof of graduation from an accredited high school
(official transcript must be sent from the high school
to Northeast Kansas Technical College) or an official General Education
Diploma (GED).
4. Applicant must possess a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certificate prior
to attendance.
5. Applicant must be 18 years of age upon graduation from the program.
6. Applicant must take a nursing entrance test and meet minimum passing
requirements. An ACT WorkKeys assessment must be taken, but will not be
used for selection for the program. Please call 1-800-567-4890
to schedule tests.
7. Applicant must attend an interview with a member
of the Nursing Department.
8. A letter of reference from the most current employer is required.
9. Once accepted, a physical examination and required immunizations must
be completed. All applicants are expected to have current adult CPR certification.
Northeast Kansas Technical College reserves the right
to deny a student admission, re-admission, or enrollment if he or she
violates the student code of conduct, is currently suspended, or is not
making satisfactory academic progress.
International Students
International students must meet all admissions policies
and provide required documentation, as found in the guidelines established
by the Director of Admissions and published in the Student Handbook.
