Building Trades Technology

Program Overview
The Building Trades program is a 9 month program designed to prepare interested
students for a productive job in the building industry by teaching students
how to use both tools and materials effectively in the actual construction
of a house. Students will be challenged to complete the building of a
house each year in conjunction with plumbers, electricians, and sheet
metal workers. The Building Trades program is housed in the Construction
Trades Center located at 2603 Industry Road, Atchison, Kansas.
Purpose
The purpose of the Building Trades program is to provide
educational opportunities to individuals that will enable them to obtain
the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to succeed in the field
of construction.
Career Opportunities
The construction industry is one of the largest and most
important industries in the United States. The industry employs workers
in a wide variety of occupations. The Kansas Occupational Outlook predicts
that the demand for workers will rise to over 38.5% in the next couple
years.
Upon graduation, graduates will be able to find employment
in areas such as home building and renovation, commercial building, prefabricate
building, cabinet making, construction material sales, drywall installers,
and framers and siding installers.
